Question 4. Match the echoes described in question 3 to Mesonet temperature, dew point, and solar radiation plots at 4:30 p.m.

Answer. The convective cells and the reflectivity thin line (cold front) are located near the maximum temperature gradient. The stratiform precipitation is located in the cold air (just above freezing).

The convective cells are located very close to the moisture tongue in eastern Oklahoma (dewpoints in the mid 50's to 60's). The thin line is located close to a moisture gradient, but the moisture gradient is weaker than the temperature gradient. The stratiform precipitation is located in an area that has dew points in the 20's and 30's, so the precipitation should not be as heavy as the convective.

The convective cells and the stratiform precipitation are located in an area of lowest radiation due thick cloud cover. Note the radiation minimum near the convective cells. The thin line is advancing into a less cloudy area, but this area will be overcome with clouds as darkness approaches.
