Question 2. Look at the surface map from 7:00 a.m. on August 17. How moist was the air over Oklahoma at the surface? Would this moisture support severe thunderstorms? Where were mid-60s and 70s dew point temperatures located? |
Answer. Dew points in Oklahoma were in the mid-50s, providing marginal moisture to support severe thunderstorms. Dew point temperatures in the mid-60s and 70s were located in Texas and along the Gulf coast. A moisture tongue extended into central Texas, and the flow from Texas into Oklahoma was predominately southerly. |
