Question 7.  Look at the VIL and base reflectivity images between 2:45 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. Do any unusual reflectivity patterns appear? Look at the corresponding Mesonet plots and NWS products issued by the Oklahoma City office. What has occured over Major, Garfield, and Kingfisher counties?

Answer. Large hail and destructive wind gusts were experienced over Major, Garfield, Kingfisher, and Canadian counties. The Oklahoma Mesonet recorded a wind gust in Major county of 113 mph and a sustained wind of 78 mph for over 5 minutes. The high VIL values and the spike of weak reflectivity, called a 3-body hail spike (in which false echoes are located radially behind a hail core), suggested that large hail was associated with the storm. Storm reports indicated hail as large as 4" by 6" occurred in Canadian county at approximately 3:55 p.m.
