Question 5. What scenarios might lead you to expect a heavy rainfall event?

Answer. The August 18, 1997 Hydrometeorlogical Discussions pointed out the factors that could have contributed to a heavy rainfall event. The discussion mentioned the frontal boundry in southern Oklahoma, a short wave over the state, and an abundance of low-level moisture. These factors were expected to produce 2.5 - 3.0 inches of rain over the forecast area.
