Question 3. Based on the middle and upper level winds on 1200 UTC July 18,
what direction would you expect any showers or thunderstorms to move?

Answer. The 500mb map will give you the "steering" winds of the storms. Those winds are to the East and Southeast according to the 1200UTC map. The 300mb wins, will give you an idea of where some of the troughs and ridges are and also if there is divergence to support storm development. There is divergence across the Mississippi River thus supporting the storms. |
