10. Examine the storm-total precipitation at about 3:00 am on the 15th.

  • Where has the most rainfall ocurred? How much has fallen?
  • How is the axis of rainfall aligned with the front? With the 500-mb winds?

Answer.

  • The axis of greatest precipitation is aligned southwest-to-northeast, right along where the front was located for nearly two days.
  • Radar indicated a wide belt of three-plus inch rains, and five-plus inch rain totals were common.
  • Parts of Cotton, Jefferson, Stephens, Carter, Murray and Seminole Counties have six-plus inch values.

The Bottom Line:

Stationary boundaries and slow-moving features add up for flood-producing rains..
