Question 5. How much rainfall does the radar estimate over Virginia during this event?
|
Answer. The radar estimated that over 12 inches of rain had fallen in some areas during the event. At least 5 of these inches fell in a 3-hour period. In addition, the radar usually underestimates rainfall accumulations in maritime tropical air masses, often by a factor of 2 or 3. |
