The Virginia Storms of June 27, 1995
Answer to Question 5
Previous Question

Question 5. How much rainfall does the radar estimate over Virginia during this event?

Answer. The radar estimated that over 12 inches of rain had fallen in some areas during the event. At least 5 of these inches fell in a 3-hour period. In addition, the radar usually underestimates rainfall accumulations in maritime tropical air masses, often by a factor of 2 or 3.
