  • According to the forecaster, what are the primary threats the next few days?
  • What part of the OK-FIRST website can help you assess the more immediate threats?

Answer.

  • The forecaster identifies fire as the main hazard of the day.
      THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK...
NO THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED THROUGH TONIGHT.

      DISCUSSION...
THE ATMOSPHERE WILL BE STABLE THROUGH TONIGHT.

      PROBABILITY TABLE...
VALID THROUGH 700 AM CST WEDNESDAY MAR 1.
PROBABILITY OF THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRING IN THE NWS NORMAN COUNTY WARNING AREA ... 0 PERCENT.

      OTHER HAZARDOUS WEATHER...
THE COMBINATION OF HIGH TEMPERATURES ... BREEZY SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WINDS AND DRY VEGETATION WILL COMBINE TO CREATE VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER.

  • The forecaster mentions thuderstorms as a hazard in coming days, along with very high fire danger.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN ... TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY...

      THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK...
THUNDERSTORM CHANCES WILL EXIST IN NORTH TEXAS AND SOUTHERN OKLAHOMA WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THERE IS A CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS MOST OF OKLAHOMA AND ADJACENT PARTS OF NORTH TEXAS THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY.

      OTHER HAZARDOUS WEATHER...
FIRE DANGER WILL BE VERY HIGH WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY.

  • The "Choose Your Threat / Decision Support" section for fire will have several products that are relevant to fire danger.

The Bottom Line:

  • Just three hours after this HWO, the same forecaster issued a corrected HWO with the following language:
      OTHER HAZARDOUS WEATHER...
FIRE DANGER WILL REACH VERY HIGH TO EXTREME LEVELS WEDNESDAY.
It's always a good idea to check back often for forecast and outlook updates. Try to find regular times of the day to refresh your "situation awareness".
