Oklahoma Climatological Survey
Overview

DESCRIPTION: Layer Composite Reflectivity is similar to Composite Reflectivity, except that it is the maximum reflectivity in a vertical column in a specified horizontal layer. Layer Composite Reflectivity was intended mostly for aviation purposes, but it is helpful to gauge the vertical structure and intensity of storms.

PRODUCTS: There are three (3) Layer Composite Reflectivity NIDS products:

LCREF1

"Low" layer
(Surface to 24,000 feet)

LCREF2

"Middle" layer
(24,000 to 33,000 feet)

LCREF3

"High" layer
(33,000 to 60,000 feet)
