Archiving Data
Archiving is an excellent tool for storing data on your hard drive for use when working offline or saving data not permanently stored on the server. Archiving data enables you to save the data files for each product in a map for a given date. The data are saved from the time you start archiving until you choose to stop archiving. Once you archive data you can view the data any time you want, even if you don't have an Internet connection.
To view archived data files stored on your computer, choose the date in the Date dialog. For more information on viewing archived data, please see related topics below.
To archive data, choose one of the following:
- Choose Map > Start Archiving
- Click once on the Folder icon in the legend. When the folder is highlighted, data is archiving
To stop archiving data, choose one of the following:
- Choose Map > Stop Archiving
- Click once on the Folder icon in the legend. When the folder is dimmed, data is not archiving
Note: Another way to access archiving is to right-click with the mouse on the date in the legend. A contextual menu will appear; choose Start Archiving or Stop Archiving.
The Data Manager is used to access data sets that have been archived. From the Data Manager, you can delete data from a data set or open the folders containing the data in the Explorer. The Data Manager is not used to view archived data.
To access the Data Manager:
- Choose Window > Show Data Manager
- Choose the Data Set you wish to view
- Click Show Files
Note: Data are organized differently for each data set. Some are organized by year, month, day; others are organized by product types; some data sets are organized by both. In this window, you can either delete the selected folder or show the selected folder in the Explorer.
Note: Even when products are hidden in the legend, those data sets are still being archived.
Warning: All archived data are saved to your computer's hard drive. Over time this may result in a large amount of data being stored on your hard drive. If your hard drive is getting full, consider deleting or backing up data sets which are not used often.
